Introduction to Screenwriting
We'll start by going over what a screenplay is and, perhaps equally important, what it isn't. We'll cover each element of a screenplay, from the title page to the scene headers, action descriptions, dialogue, and transitions. We'll even discuss special formatting situations like montages and flashbacks.
Story
After examining the technical part of screenwriting, we'll turn our attention to the art of storytelling. We'll discuss the three-act structure, character development, character arcs, and the importance of tension and conflict in a story. We'll also examine the role of theme and how it influences and drives the story.
Writing the Screenplay
We'll bring it all together and get into the specifics of the writing process. We'll talk about story beats, scenes, and sequences, and go over the process of plotting and outlining your screenplay, as well as the crucial step of rewriting. As a case study, we'll examine my screenplay for Snowlands to provide a deeper understanding of how all the elements we discuss come together in a finished script.

The course includes the complete 108-page script for Snowlands. The screenplay can be studied and analyzed alongside the lessons.
